Retailer CVS has come under fire on social media pages Twitter and Facebook for the continual use of elaborate coupons on their receipts.
According to an article by Matt Brownell published on dailyfinance.com, the addition of these coupons to the receipt has resulted in receipts measuring up to three feet long – all for the purchase of a single item.
Recently, many twitter users took to the social media platform to express their bewilderment at the phenomenon, with @TheSeanBrewster tweeting “I just built the world’s largest suspension bridge with my CVS receipt.”
Another user suggested buying toilet paper from CVS, as the receipt is the equivalent of getting an extra roll for free.
A statement made by a CVS spokeswoman explained that printing coupons on receipts saves paper by avoiding the need to print the coupons on separate pieces of paper, and that their ‘Send to Card’ option allowed them to reduce the amount of direct mail they were sending to their customers.
