Cash register rolls were ticking over in Grafton during November 2012’s Fair Dinkum Country Music Festival. At least $16500 in extra revenue came into the town, thanks to out-of town visitors who were staying for the festival.
Many of the festival’s attendees were parked in the local caravan park, and subsequently spent up big in the town for repairs and upgrades—fridges, BBQs, batteries and servicing being big areas of expenditure.
2012’s event attracted about 100 patrons in 60 vans. While it’s not the same level of numbers as some of Australia’s other music festivals may pull, the numbers are impressive when you consider that attendance has doubled since 2011.
Event organiser Bob Vickers described the increased funds as “good news for the town” and also noted that many of the festivalgoers he’d spoken to “said it was fantastic and they’d be back next year and bring their friends with them.”
